Reflecting on the recent survey for Slimefun and the General State of Beyond Horizons

Hi Everyone,

Recently we ran a community survey to find out how you're really feeling about Beyond Horizons. I want to start by saying thank you, to everyone who took the time to fill it out, and to everyone who's stuck around while we work through this. I've read every response, and I'm not going to sugar coat what came back.

There are real problems. You told us clearly, and I want to address them head on.

What You Told Us

A few things came through loud and clear:

  • Staff activity and visibility - this was the biggest concern raised. Too many of you have felt staff aren't around, aren't engaging, and that new players aren't being welcomed when they join.
  • New-player experience - claims are confusing, spawn portals haven't worked properly, and first impressions haven't been good enough.
  • Long-term content - our most dedicated players, the ones playing daily, are running out of things to work towards.
  • Economy balance - the current setup isn't rewarding progression the way it should.
  • Communication - you want to know what's actually being worked on, not just see things change with no explanation.

I hear all of it. And I want to be completely clear about one thing:

The buck stops with me. I'm the owner of this server, and if things haven't been good enough, that responsibility sits on my shoulders. Not staff, not any one department, me. I will see this through, because you've been heard, and now it's time to show it.

What's Already Changed

I'm not waiting around to start fixing things. Some of this is already live:

  • UI changes have already been pushed across core Slimefun, bringing more consistency to menus and items.
  • Spawn portals have been fixed.

What's Coming Next

Here's the honest roadmap. Some of this has firm timing, some is in progress, and some depends on your input, I'll flag which is which.

This week / next

  • 🔧 New claiming tutorial: a rewritten claiming system is being worked on right now, and I'm aiming to have an in-game tutorial guiding new players through it by end of next week. This should make one of the most confusing parts of joining the server much easier to navigate.
  • Inactive shop notice: every shop on Slimefun is now on notice. You have 72 hours from this announcement to make sure your shop is active. After that window, management will be going through and removing all inactive shop warps, so the shop directory stays useful and current for everyone.
  • 🗓️ Scheduled maintenance: there will be scheduled maintenance at some point next week. I'm still finalising the exact timing, there's a lot being worked on in the background, and I want to get the timing right to minimise disruption to players. Exact date and time will be confirmed in the updates channel once locked in.

In progress

  • 🛠️ Continued Slimefun UI work: the changes already pushed are just the start; more consistency passes are coming across items and add-ons.
  • Crate item enchantment issues: I know some crate items currently can't take enchants, which makes them have limited usefulness. I'm looking into whether these can be adjusted retroactively to fix this for items already handed out, not just new ones going forward.
  • 📢 Community & social presence: work is starting on getting more of a social media presence going, so what's happening on the server doesn't just live behind the scenes.
  • 👥 Staff activity initiatives: staff policies are being updated, and I have spoken with the management team and discussions in relation to the teams activity are ongoing. This isn't a one-off conversation, it's something we'll keep working on.

Up for a community decision

  • 💰 Slimefun economy rebalance: a possible soft reset of Slimefun's economy is being put to a community vote. This would rebalance prices, sell values, and shop balances. To be crystal clear: rankups, claims, builds, and the world itself would not be touched. Rankup prices may change going forward, but you will not lose any rankup status you've already earned. This poll has already gone out on discord, please do feel free to ask questions in the thread if you're unsure before voting.
  • 🗳️ Further polls: this won't be the only one. Expect more community votes as we work through this plan, so you have a say in the decisions that affect you.

Being scoped

  • 🎯 Endgame content: this came through clearly from our most active players, and I want to get it right rather than guess. We'll be following up with the community to nail down exactly what's missing before committing to what we build.

A Personal Note

I want to be upfront about something. Our development team is pretty much just me at the moment. I know some of you have grown impatient waiting for things to change, and that's fair, but I promise I'm working as hard as I can to get this right.

I'll be honest, I do forget things sometimes. Not out of malice, just because there's a lot on my plate. If something slips through, please let me know rather than assuming the worst, I'd rather hear it from you directly than have it turn into frustration that sits unspoken.

I also have a life outside the server, and there are some days at the moment where I'm putting in almost 20 hours on server things. There isn't much more I can give beyond that. And in the meantime, I'd really appreciate everyone continuing to be kind and understanding while I work through all of this.

Where This Leaves Us

None of this fixes everything overnight, and I won't pretend it does. But I wanted you to see the plan, not just hope things get better. Staff activity, new-player experience, the economy, and long-term content are all being worked on right now, not someday.

If you've got questions about any of this, drop them below, I'd rather explain the reasoning than have people guessing at it.

As always, updates will be posted in the #updates channel on Discord as things change, that's the best place to keep an eye on progress as it happens.

Thank you for being honest with us. Let's get this right.
