Welcome to the Frontier: Our New Slimefun Server Is Coming
Justin's back and kicking the door down! Following overwhelming support in our recent poll, Frontier, our brand new Slimefun Survival server, is now in development, bringing 26.3 biomes, the Cultivation addon and a full economy overhaul.
Hello All!
I've just this moment landed back in the UK from my holiday, and before anything else, I want to say a huge thank you to Iono for keeping a lid on things while I've been away. Iono, I know filling in for me isn't easy, but you've done incredibly well and I'm very proud of you.
Now that I'm back, I'm coming in kicking the door down with some big news...
The Votes Are In!
Thank you to everyone who took part in our recent poll on bringing the newer Minecraft biomes to Slimefun. The response was overwhelming, and the community has spoken: development has officially begun on Frontier, our brand new Slimefun Survival server!
Frontier will run alongside our existing Slimefun gamemode, which is not closing. Your current bases, progress and items will remain exactly where they are.
A Fresh World with 26.3 Generation
Frontier will be built on pure vanilla 26.3 world generation, meaning you'll finally be able to explore biomes that don't exist on our current map, including:
- Sulfur Caves: an underground biome of sulfur and cinnabar, home to the Sulfur Cube
- Dappled Forest: an autumn-themed forest of Poplar trees, Red Shrubs and Shelf Mushrooms, along with the new Abandoned Camps
Getting out into that world will be easier too. The old /wild menu is being replaced with simple commands: /wild, plus /wildnether and /wildend for those who've earned them through rankup.
The Best of Slimefun, Refined
We've learned a lot from running our current Slimefun gamemode, and we want Frontier to reflect that. Our aim is to:
- Keep the best elements of what makes our existing Slimefun server great
- Refine the areas that haven't worked as well as we'd like
- Introduce changes that simply couldn't be made on an established gamemode
A few of the changes already planned:
- Chunk Claims: alongside the current simple claiming mode, you'll also be able to claim by chunk, complete with per-chunk mob settings so you control what spawns on your land
- Graves: Keep Inventory is being replaced with grave chests, so dying matters again without losing everything you've worked for
- Quests: rebalanced to lean less on cash rewards, with Slimefun items joining the reward pool
- Rankup: more varied rewards, costs tuned to the new economy, and some brand new perks to work towards
- Jobs: we're looking at moving away from hard hourly caps towards something that rewards consistent play more fairly
Introducing Cultivation 🌱
We're planning to add Cultivation as a new addon on Frontier, bringing fresh farming and crop content to the Slimefun experience. Please note this is pending final testing, and we'll confirm once it's locked in.
A Comprehensive Economy Overhaul
The economy has long been one of the trickiest parts of running Slimefun, with automated production making it difficult to keep prices and balance in check. Frontier is our chance to tackle that properly.
We'll be carrying out comprehensive economic overhauls, including a rethink of how the shop works, with the goal of finally getting the economic side of Slimefun under control and keeping it healthy for the long term.
A Leaner Resource Pack
We're trimming the resource pack down for Frontier to keep load times quick. Fan favourites like the Nature, Sakura and Halloween content are coming with us, along with the R26 crates.
What's Next?
I'm aiming to have core Slimefun and every addon updated to 26.3 within the next few weeks :) There are a few more ideas still on the drawing board (some of you may be very happy about one or two of them 👀), and we'll share more details, previews and timelines as development progresses, so keep an eye on our announcements and Discord.
Have ideas or feedback for Frontier? We'd love to hear them. Let us know in the Discord!
See you on the Frontier, Justin
